Small Embers [Black Friendship Event Graham and Gabriel]

A small trail of smoke traveled up from Gabriel's cigarrette. It was small in his hands and the tip periodically flashed red, almost as if it were alive and breathing. This was his favorite way to pass time, just sit and enjoy a smoke as the time passed by. It was a lazy Saturday and since he didn't have many people come in he decided to take a break and let the new doctor handle things while he was away for a while. Sometimes a guy just needed a break from things, take some time and let his mind re-organize itself every once in a while.

Smoke signals. They could get attention from passing planes or boats if you were stuck on a deserted island, or even an inhabited one without active ferry service. They signal distress. They were the oldest forms of communication in recorded history.

So it wasn't much of a surprise that, when Graham saw the familiar cloud of smoke rising from a cigarette that wasn't his, his curiosity was peaked. He saw a man, not much older than himself, maybe even the same age, sitting lazily on a bench. Graham took a seat next to him and drew a smoke from his pocket.

"Got a light?" he asked roughly.

"Yeah," he said reaching into his lab coat and pulling out a simple silver lighter. He tossed it to the guy with shaggy hair that took the open seat on the bench by him. Normally people stayed their distance away from him when he was smoking, so it was weird for someone to approach him instead. He did mind the person coming up and smoking by him, it was just weird. Then again eversince he moved here people's actions had been different compared to city folk. Like there weren't all the akward boundries. "Name?" he asked as he waited for his lighter to be handed back to him.
