Never Gonna Be Alone [Reserved, Chase/Mia]

Chase dangled his legs off of a roof, but it wasn't his own. He wanted a good view. He was nervous, but excited, as well.

He had posted yet another scavenger hunt clue on another rooftop, where he was certain Mia would find it. But there was only one clue in today's search. He hoped it would end the way he was wanting it to.

What fastens two people, yet touches only one?

Mia, picking up speed and momentum, leapt onto a nearby roof, rolling to safety.
She didn't see it at first, but as she leapt up again, she stopped in her tracks.
There on the roof was a little piece of paper, stuck against the tiles, was a little note.

What fastens two people, yet touches only one?
Mia grinned. She knew who this was from, and she was pretty sure she knew it's purpose. She might just be in for another scavenger hunt.

But, what was the answer?
Mia thought for a minute. It was difficult, and though she hated it, she had to admit defeat. It was time to find Chase.
Quickly, she ducked down to look down beside the walls, before quickly noticing Chase sitting on the edge of someone's roof. Not his own.

She dashed over to him, taking all of five seconds to eagerly cross the small few rooftops in between them.
"Throw me a bone, I need help." She giggled, holding the note out in her palm.

Chase grinned. It was one of the cooler Summer days, and it was getting colder as the sun fell in the sky. He swung his legs back over onto the roof, looking up at Mia. He was wearing his contact lenses, his glasses safely tucked away in a cabinet somewhere, along with some other items that meant a lot to him. He'd be lost and blind without them.

He simply smiled at her, and looked down at the piece of paper dangling between her long, slender fingers. "You really can't think of the answer?" He rubbed his chin thoughtfully, pretending to consider this. "Hmmm...." He grinned up at her. "What's in it for me?"

Mia grinned, kneeling down on her knees beside him to put her arms around his shoulders and give him a sweet little kiss, batting her eyelashes innocently.
"Anything you want." She whispered coyly, trying her best to play sugary.

She wondered where this particular little sweetheart hunt was going, Chase had his was of looping her curiousity around his little finger.
Reading her like a book, as always.

Chase smiled. He was already sitting down, so the whole song-and-dance wasn't really necessary. He gulped, a little nervous, and motioned for her to hand him the paper. He wished he had put his glasses on; it was always a little harder to read with his contacts. But he did it with minimal difficulty.

"'What fastens two people, yet touches only one?'" he read. He couldn't keep from smiling. He backed up just a little bit from her, and reached into a back pocket.

When he pulled his hand back out, he was holding a little velvet case. "The answer lies in this box," he explained. He watched her carefully, and then lifted the lid.

There was a Brandeis blue feather wrapped around a cotton lining. Tied to the feather was a small silver ring.

Mia watched as Chase held the case in front of her, watching as the velvet lid was slowly opened.
And then, she could have sworn that her heart had stopped beating.

There, in the little velvet case, was a delicate feather, bright blue, along with it a shining ring.
She felt her her heart quiver.
"Chase..."

It was love.
"I want to stay by your side forever. I love you." The words felt like honey in her mouth. Warmth in her soul.
She felt herself blush, her heart racing in her chest.
"Yes, I'll marry you."

Chase grinned. He was almost a bit embarrassed; there was a lot of emotion involved in this, and he was never good at sorting his feelings out and putting a finger on them. It was hard for him to know what, exactly, he wanted. But he had finally figured it out. He picked up the ring, and slid it on her finger. He tucked the feather behind her ear, stood up, and hugged her tightly.

"Um..." His mind was racing, and he was having difficulty thinking straight. He chuckled, ducking his head a little bit. "So...what now?"

Mia felt her heart soar as the ring was slipped over her finger, and the feather behind her ear.
She too wrapped her arms around her fiancé.
Fiancé. It felt strange to think that, but she couldn't be happier about it.

Lacing her fingers with his, she lay her head against his chest as she had so often done before. But it felt new, but still wonderful.
She didn't quite know what they should do, but she simply shrugged it off.
"I love you. Just thought I'd remind you." Mia rhymed, squeezing Chase's hand a little.
