James carefully listened to her words as they walked together, “Strange thinking? Nonsense.” He responded quickly, his brows furrowed together as he glanced towards her for only a moment before focusing his eyes on the path in front of himself. “It’s new.” He began, “And we are in a time where new things are happening every single day.” He spoke, sounding as if he was reassured by something in the back of his mind. He chuckled lightly and nodded, “That you do, if you don’t mind my saying so, of course.” There was a feeling of the twinge of the corner of his lips curling up into a weak smile.

They continued to walk down the hall, earning more eyes every now and then. James could have sworn to have even heard a murmur from someone they had passed in curiosity. But the brunette quickly pushed it from his mind, feeling as if he did not want to bring any embarrassment of the sorts upon the girl beside him. After all, they had just met. He felt her eyes upon him, she must have been considering his offer; he smiled at the sound of her answer, “Wonderful.” He let out a soft chuckle, “Please, it is only the least I could do. No honor is necessity. I enjoy it.” He smiled weakly as he glanced down towards her once more.

It felt like such a long time before she finally decided to answer, such a look grew upon the German’s face as he stood there, waiting. He felt his fingers curling up into a balled fist as he tightened it a little bit… But then he suddenly relaxed his hands as she answered to the point where he could hear her words. He paused for a moment before nodding, “Good.” He mumbled, like his teeth had been grinded together. His blue eyes glanced over his shoulder one last time to the window, seeing the sun setting in the distance, blending with the orange-looking sky. His eyes somehow fell on the girl once more as she just sat there… Very smart of the Jew. He sneered at the thought of her possible intelligence.

His hand touched the metal of the doorknob once more as he lightly twisted it, opening the door for himself, just as he was about to leave—he stopped. “I will bring you a candle. But keep it at a small flame.” Oskar murmured to her. With those words, he left the room, closing the door.

But when my sister brought Doug home I knew he was one of my own. And my wolfpack, it grew by one. So there were two of us in the wolfpack. I was alone first in the pack and then Doug joined in later.

James Ismay bit his tongue, “I’m sorry, I meant it as a compliment.” He attempted to speak with a nervous laugh behind his words as he scratched his temple with his free hand. “But you’re welcome.” He spoke meekly, glancing away to shield his mild embarrassment.

His eyes managed to lock with a pass-byer, it was strange that people were basically watching them. “You would think that.” He mumbled. Was it really that strange to actually see a man that was actually trained in proper ways of treating a lady? Or was it just odd actually seeing the boy with a woman. He was strangely notorious of denying women in England, saying he was not ready for any relationship of the sort, much to his parents disapproval. “I’m sorry to have brought this upon you.” That last bit took the cake--he was officially embarrassed now, “I’m so sorry, you must excuse me and my words. I meant it as a compliment.” He responded, sounding a bit nervous for some reason, “But you are welcome.” He murmured.

It’s time to talk about everyone’s favorite topic… The Despie! What is a despie, you ask? Well, it’s elementary, dear Watson - despises are desperate characters (as one might have guessed from their nickname). These characters are all about looking for love. Character development and plot movement? Screw that crap! The only thing a despie sees valuable in life is getting lots of lovings. Before we go about how to not be a despie, let’s first list the many symptoms and warnings signs that point a despie out, shall we?

--- First off, a despie is sexy, no doubt about it. It doesn’t matter if your character thinks that brunettes are better - if a despie is blonde, you’ll love them for it anyway! Or at least, so the despie thinks. A despie will usually go about to wear either revealing clothes, or describe how insanely sexy their clothes look on them in a thread (usually the first post, but if a member of the opposite sex should come in, suddenly, what clothes they are wearing is insanely important to the thread!). Tons of physical description (usually useless descriptions) are usually found in their posts. Whether it be “she placed a delicate hand on her slender hip” or maybe “she ran a hand through her velvety hair, the scent of strawberries wafting from her locks” the despie always makes sure to remind you how extremely hot she is.

--- A despie is, in short, an attention hog. If you are roleplaying a despie, then, of course, you know nothing about what it means to be ‘exciting’ in a roleplay, so a despie’s attempts to grab attention will always be short of ridiculous. Despises are known to cut themselves, or do any other sort of mutilation in order to be pitied. Perhaps they hate it, perhaps they act like they like it and plead for “help” from other characters, but how they feel about it is irrelevant because it’s all a scheme to get YOU webbed in in their trap of mary-sue ness! Yes, YOU, the wonderful roleplayer who plays a well characterized and well through out character! The despie will do anything in their power to get your attention, whether it be jumping in a river to save little boys (despite the fact they can’t swim!) or reading you a story in five different languages (despite the fact there is nothing mentioned about being able to do such in their profile) the possibilities for a despie are endless!

--- Lastly, a despie is just plain annoying. Nobody likes a despie, except for other despies, and sometimes even this doesn’t play off too well. Despies are like the village idiot - everyone laughs at them behind their back, attempts to avoid them, even if this doesn’t work out so well. Remember people, love is an interesting part of being in a roleplay, but you know what makes it interesting? Well, not knowing when love is coming! Very rarely do people know who their character is going to fall in love with, and when it does happens, it’s one of the best feelings in the world, to play out this relationship (and maybe give it some drama along the way as well! <3). But don’t worry, this horrible disease can be treated (and thankfully, it isn’t contagious!)

STEP ONE: YOUR CHARACTER IS A HUMAN

We’re not on a fantasy roleplay here, so I can definitely say, without a doubt, that your character is a human, so remember to play her/him like one! Remember that personality you wrote in your profile? Yeah, well, use it! If you said that your character is shy, don’t make him suddenly go up to totally strangers and admit that you like to cut yourself, that’s not in character! If your character is a tough, outgoing tomboy, why would they suddenly clam up in front of some dude that’s the same as everyone else? Yeah yeah, you see that in movies and crap, but guess what? We’re not Hollywood, and we like to keep away from clichés here, so let’s keep in line! Your character is a human: not an alien, elf, Wookie, or etc! Play it like one!

STEP TWO: CUT THE MARY-SUE CRAP

The despie is best friends with the Mary Sue, with some more annoying tendencies added. Refer back to my earlier rant about Mary Sues, and keep that all in mind! No, you are not perfect, and no, not everyone is going to like you, especially not that special guy or girl you keep hounding, because you’re acting like an obsessed stalker! Don’t be stupid like most Mary-Sue players and make your character look all surprised when someone finds them in the beach wearing a bikini… Don’t be ridiculous and expect your character to be all nonchalant about being punched in the face when you’ve stated many times in your profile how weak and breakable she is! You are not perfect, and because you are not perfect, you cannot create the perfect character. So cut the crap and start being real.

FINAL STEP: BE YOURSELF

And by ‘yourself,’ I don’t mean to revert to your despie-ways, but to look back at that personality you wrote and decide what type of character you were trying to create. Flesh out the important details that made your character special to you, and try to become just that, special in your own way, without being a Mary Sue. Every character, deep inside, has the promise to be something great! However, once the Mary Sue monster comes and eats away at that, you might just forget who you’re trying to roleplay! Never forget that, and don’t be desperate for love, and you probably won’t be bitten by the despie monster! Well, hopefully…
