A Steady Hand [Gabriel and Michael]

Michael was researching some things on the upcoming patient he was going to have. He didn't have enough medication for the operation, so he settled off the the clinic in Mineral town since it was pretty close. On his way there he just kept looking at the patient's profile which he always did so he wouldn't make a single fatal mistake during the operation. "Wermer's syndrome?" He muttered. There were tumors pratically all over the place. The stomach, pancreas, and the pituitary gland. Also some imflamations. Why did this go untreated? He was pretty suprised himself that he ran out of stabilizer which was important. As he got in the clinic he went up to the local nurse, Ellie, "Do you have any stabilizer in stock?" He asked.

"Oh yes, I'll be right back," She replied.

He was pretty relieved by that answer. HE sat on a near chair and just researched over the patient's profile.

Winter was one of the most difficult times to keep medicine in stock. Since Gabriel just opened his clinic this year he didn't have a ton of medicinal herbs quite yet, therefore, he didn't have enough anti-biotics as a result. Earlier he had emailed Trent about it and Trent said to come over to pick some up. He entered the clinc that was a bit smaller than his own and walked to the counter. Elli wasn't there, so he looked around the room and saw a familar face. "Hey Micheal," he said. "What brings you here?"

Michael was patient and didn't mind if Ellie took so long. Soon a familiar face came in. "Oh hey, I just came in because I ran out of stabilizer which is pretty important," He explained. He closed the file and put the file on the next chair to him. He had to get some since the operation was in a few days but he had to get some just in case if there was a sudden emergency. Most people would say he could wait the day before but certain reasons could happen. "What brings you here?"

"For a very similar reason: antibiotics," explained Gabriel decieding he might as take a seat as well if Micheal was waiting out hear as well. It could be awhile when Elli would return afterall, so why not make himself comfortable? "Must have an operation coming up, eh?" asked Gabe a bit curious of the details. He had nothing better to do than make idle conversation at the moment as he waited.

"I see," Michael replied. Anti-biotics were important to, but he had enough for now. Winter was the season of illness, or what he called it. This is the time where he always tells his patients to stay healthy and don't do anything insane. Well he always said that but mostly in the winter time. It was pretty common for kids to get colds. "Yea, In about two days but just in case if any emergencies happened I will have the stabilizer," He explained. Stabilizer was important because antibiotic gel can't always do the trick.

"Whoa," Gabriel said. He did a little reasearch on Micheal and from what he understood he was a top-notch seurgon with an increadibly high sucess rate that most people would be envious of. For something to cause a doctor like him to take such precautions it had to be serious. "Must be a difficult operation for you to prepare this far in advance," he noted scratching his chin.

Michael nodded. Wermer's symdrome was serious and also hard since of so many tumors around the body. "Yea, But luckily I do have some people to support me," He said. He had skilled nurses and co-ops, he thought as himself lucky. Except for one operation he did a year back. He tried to get that out of his mind he didn't want to talk about it. "It's good to get ready before the operation, If you were me you don't want to fail at this at all," He explained. He didn't like failing, but his other team back where he used to work at always try to cheer him up a bit but he would get over it but his family member operation, he could never get over it.

"I don't think anyone would want to fail when a life hangs in the balance," commented Gabriel. Losing a patient was the ultimate nightmare for a doctor, but all of them had to experience it at some point. "What exactly is the patient's condition?" Gabriel couldn't help but ask. Things like this interested him quite a bit. Maybe one day he might convince Micheal to let him assist him in a surgery. It'd been awhile since he had been in the operating room once he thought about.

"Exactly," Michael replied. He hated failed operations, it just made him stressed and his team would just all be worried plus when he was stressed and emergencies would come he would mess up but luckily his team would help him out. "The patient's condition is Wermer's Symdrome, I recommended her staying over a few nights just in case something happened. This operation is going to be a tough one for myself in awhile," He explained. He didn't have operations like this in a long time, These kind operations were kind of stressful and also needed a lot of treatment.

Gabriel nodded in agreement. Only an insane doctor would wish to fail at an operation, even a plastic surgeon that was doing a face lift or something like that. If things aren't done correctly it ment that the doctor would be vulnrable to lawsuits--which sucked. When Gabriel heard of the condition he tensed up a bit. "That brings back some bad memories," he admitted somberly thinking of his son back in Portland with his ex-wife.

"Bad memories? Did something happen?" Michael said trying not to pry him. It would make sense if he didn't want to talk about, he didn't want to talk about something either that happened in his past. Usually, every doctor had a reason to become a doctor. He himself didn't become a doctor just because his family was one, he because on because his 'family member' was very ill. Well, he failed that operation and it had to be his 'family member'.

Gabriel sighed heavily. It was tradic--the whole thing that is. Also, it was one of the facts in his decision to leave the hospital he used to work at. "I have a son who had it," he admitted. The son who didn't know that he was his father because he was such a lousy one. The son who became his patient that he diagnosed with Wermer's Sydrome. Now his ex-wife had full costody of him, not that he fought for it. Gabriel gave up to put it simple. How could he be the father to a boy that he didn't pay attention to?

Gabriel probably got divorced and his ex-wife got full custody. Michael felt bad, "Oh, I'm sorry. Is he ok now?" He asked. It required surgery to cure but he was sort of envied that Gabriel saved his own family member. Michael couldn't because he didn't know what was going on. That's why he researches things before operating now instead of just starting right this minute. He still regretted not being able to save his family member.

"Yeah," he nodded somberly. "It's all thanks to this one surgeon, otherwise he was so close to death." It was amazing how close a call it was. If only Joshua had been sent to him earlier, then his condition wouldn't have been as bad and he wouldn't have had to gone through such a painful experience. Not often did he think of things like this, he probably should have but he wasn't that kind of man. He was just another selfish fool in the world and he was fine with that. There is no such thing as the perfect person afterall.

"That's pretty amazing, I'm glad your son is okay," Michael said giving a little grin. Soon the nurse came in with enough stabilizer for a long time. "Here you go, Doctor," She said and went back to the counter. Now he had enough for the whole hospital to use which is important. But since his break was almost over, he guessed he had to be back there. "My break is almost over, I should head back. See ya," He said heading off with the stabilizer and his patient's file.
