-Family: Annabelle- The girls' mother. Tired, sharp, and strict. Has obvious preferences within her group of children.
Daniel - The girls' father. Hardworking, subtle, frugal. He was Arden's closest ally when she was growing up, but he couldn't stand up to Annabelle.
Jennifer- Identical twin; completely different personality from Arden.
Charlotte - Baby sister, drowned accidentally under Arden's watch.
Sydney- Arden's two-year-old cousin who is staying with her while parents are away.

-Extra Information: Arden is a twin. But you wouldn't know it if you were to meet her sister, Jennifer. The two are total opposites, in personality and interests. Jennifer is loud, commanding, and loves to be the center of attention; Arden would much rather stay at home with a book and a cup of tea. Jennifer has stolen the spotlight everywhere she goes, and that's a trend that started when the girls were young. Arden got used to hiding in the shadows, where she has stayed. There is still a tension between the sisters.
Her youngest sister drowned at the beach when Arden was younger, while she was watching her. Arden still carries around the self-inflicted blame of letting her young sister die, and thus, she is frightened of the beach and the ocean. She is determined to aid young children...maybe as penance, because she feels like she caused her sister's death. She feels that she has a debt to pay, to society and to her family, and has made it her mission in life to help people by whatever means possible.
