| I actually did this for my English homework once and had to read it to the class. See what you think of it.
Laughter, happiness, a caring mother, it was all too good to be true. We had no secrets; both of us knew everything about each other. Every meal of the week was different, on Monday we had lasagne, Tuesday pasta, Wednesday Chicken, Thursday risotto and on Friday, my absolute all time favourite, Pizza! We only had a small cottage on the edge of Pretoria but everything inside was more homely than you could ever imagine. We owned a small chunk of land too that we used to grow crops on to sell, and also to keep for our own use. My room was small with animal posters stuck up on the walls with my bed huddled in the corner. My wardrobe was opposite it with my secrets box and my dairy hidden on top of it. Even though father was war we still had the hope and faith within us to believe that he would survive. Then everything changed so suddenly; we received a letter from the army saying that, father had tragically been killed by a land mine. I felt my heart miss a beat. “M-m-mother. It’s n-not true is it?” But mother simply answered with a nod of her head. I always knew it was too good to be true. Slowly it began to sink in. Father was dead; mother was heartbroken and hadn’t come out her room for the last three days, apart from to go to the bathroom. I tried to get into her room to comfort her but when I tried the door it was simply locked. While that was happening all I ate was muesli, sandwiches and salad. It just wasn’t the same. I spent the evenings gazing out of the window at the golden sunset sky and watched the horizon. I would stay there until darkness fell. When mother finally came out her face was tear stricken. It was too much of a sight. I flung myself into her arms and cried my heart out. When I finally stopped crying I could hear mother’s muffled sobs. All that weight had been lifted off our shoulders. We now knew how each other felt. | |
