Fear [Ian, Kitty, and Arden]

This morning wasn't a pleasant one at all. Kitty woke up and immediatly rushed for the toilet to throw up into. Plus she had started to have a fever too. She protested to Ian that she'd be fine, but he insisted that she should go to the hospital for a check up. Sometimes he just worried a little to much for her, but after five minutes of waiting the results for her test she started to become worried too.

It was just a stomache flu, right?

By now the doctor should be back saying that they just wasted some of their money for this appointment. Because that hadn't happened yet Kitty felt really nervous about the whole thing. Maybe an emergency happened and the doctor was called to help. Then someone would have come in like a nurse and said that something was going on though. The mood was unsettling without a doubt.

This morning wasn't a pleasant one at all. Ian had woken up with a stiff back and a headache. Then he had walked into the bathroom to find his wife upchucking in the toilet. He had insisted she go to the hospital, and after much dispute, Ian's headache got worse. But Kitty finally agreed with him.

Ian was nervous, but probably not as nervous as his wife. "You're going to be OK." he whispered rubbing her back. "Whatever is wrong, we'll get through it together." That was a strange thing to say, considering it was probably just a virus. But Ian's man intuition was telling him otherwise.

It was nice having Ian there with her, even that they hadn't settled their arguement quite yet. She still felt guilty for the whole thing, but it had to be said and she couldn't put it off anymore. Part of her wondered if her guilt had made her sick or if she was actually sick. It could be a mixture of both for all she knew, since she hadn't been feeling too good yesterday. Never would she had thought that it'd get this bad. Atleast she wasn't throwing up now.

"I know," Kitty said quietly looking down and restlessly figeting with her fingers, swirling them in multiple ways around eachother.

"Geeze, when does the nurse get here?" Ian complained scratching the back of his head. He was starting to get testy, something that always happened when he was overwhelmed and had to wait for something. Ian shoved his hands in his pockets and shifted his weight back on forth. "Don't be nervous, honey." Ian said. "I'm sure it's nothing. There's nothing to worry about."

Arden entered the room, knocking first but not waiting for a reply to push open the slightly ajar door. "Sorry I'm late," she apologized. "We're a bit...overbooked." In fact, she had had to make a special trip from Mineral Town to Forget-Me-Not just for this patient. "Hi, Kitty," she said, smiling. She had known Kitty since she had moved here.

"So," she said, taking a seat on a stool and turning to face the couple. "How are you feeling? Can you tell me what's wrong? Try to be specific."

Kitty was relieved that Arden was her doctor. Arden was a very reliable person afterall and was very smart from what she knew so far about her. If she hadn't been here for an appointment she would have used the time to catch up with Arden since it had been a long time since they talked. "Hey," she greeted Arden.

"Well," she paused for a moment thinking of what to explain first. "Last night I had a stomache ache and nausea, but thought nothing of it. Then I woke up this morning and threw up a lot, with a low fever--but nothing too high just a couple of degrees above normal. I haven't thrown up for about a hour now, but I still think I have a fever. It's just a flu, right?"

Arden raised an eyebrow. There could be a number of diseases that accompanied that combination - but she had a hunch.

"Is the stomach pain a cramping one? Have you been unusually tender lately? Fatigue? Any weird cravings or mood swings? Headaches? Anything like that?" She asked, jotting something down on her clipboard as she went. She glanced up at Kitty's husband - Ian, she knew his name from a couple of encounters, but never really was close to him.

"A little stomache pain and I'm often tired, but I think that's from all the work I've been getting," she explained hoping this would just be a simple flu. Work had been busy lately and she hoped it was something that'd get cured easily. "It is a demanding job being a blacksmith afterall."

Kitty bit her lip thinking about the whole cravings and tender questions. "I've had a headache, but it isn't as bad as when I first woke up with amnesia. As for the cravings and feeling tender, no not really. I don't think I have mood swings also."

"Hmm." Arden pressed her pen to her cheek. She still had a pressing suspicion in the back of her mind. "Well. Honestly, it could be anything. But I would like to do a quick test, if you don't mind." She looked over at Ian, and back to Kitty. "It's not invasive, but you may want your privacy. It'll be fast, I promise."

She looked at her clipboard once again. "I'm fairly sure you don't have the flu. But I want to make sure of that, and I also want to check and see if there could be...some other cause." One of the main diseases that put patients in her care was the flu, and Kitty didn't look as sick as those children.

Kitty suspected that Arden had a pretty good idea what she had and only wanted proof that she was right about her diagnosis. The test wasn't invasive or anything so there was no harm at all to her and Ian could live being seperated from her for a few minutes, so why not? "Okay," Kitty said firmly curious what Arden wanted to exactly test for, but she didn't press for details. They'd know once they found out what exactly was wrong with her and the test could determine multiple things.

"All right," Arden said, standing up. "If you'll follow me..." She let her voice trail off as she pushed open the door, and motioned for Kitty to follow her. She led the girl down the hall to a small room. "This won't take but a minute," she promised.

The tests took even less time than Arden would've predicted. She did a quick blood test, and because the Clinic was so large, they were processed right away.

"Aha. I was right," she said. With the printout of the test results in her hand, she looked at Kitty. "Let's go find your husband." She walked with Kitty back to the room and had her sit back down on the cot.

"Well, it's not the flu," she said, smiling brightly. "Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Kensington. Kitty, you're pregnant."

The test was rather quick and didn't hurt too much. After waiting a bit by herself on a cot and then being escorted back to her husband, Arden was ready to tell them the results of their test. It confused Kitty at first when Arden said she didn't have the flu, actually it surprised her.

Arden happily told them the news and Kitty froze. Was this really happening? Last night she just told Ian that she couldn't have kids and now this of all things was happening to her. It seemed like a cruel joke the world was playing on her. "Are you shure?" she asked seriously begging that it wasn't true. Now she was wishing that it was anything but this.

Arden had been expecting Kitty to be happy; now, however, she realized that that wasn't going to happen. It wasn't very characteristic for Kitty to be overjoyed about much, and apparently, being pregnant didn't make her jump for joy.

"I'm sorry, is there a problem?" She consulted the test results once more. "You are, without a doubt, pregnant." She confirmed this with a nod of her head. "I'm the closest thing this town has to a OBGYN, so I'm going to go ahead and write you a prescription for prenatal vitamins and the like. You'll also want to schedule a check-up with the secretary before you go. Now, if you'd like some privacy to discuss this with your husband..." She stood up once again and started to walk out of the room. "Once again, congratulations. I'll be back momentarily."

Kitty left for a few moments with the doctor to take some sort of test. While she was away, Ian picked out a magazine and read it nervously. Not too long after, Kitty and the doctor came back. The doctor happily announced Kitty was pregnant. Ian nearly fell out of his chair. "P-Pregnant!?" He asked. There was a rush of emotions punching Ian in the stomach. One of them was fear, another confusion, and also dread. But mixed into those emotions was a tad bit of happiness Ian couldn't explain. Never the less, he began to panick. "P-pregant!? How can this be? So early in marriage, too? What am I going to do? I mean, I don't know how to raise kids!"

Ian was shocked by the news as well, but was probably taking it better than Kitty. All she could do was ask it the test was one-hundered percent sure and sit there dumbstruck. As soon as Arden left them alone for awhile she felt her eyes water and she covered her face with her hands as she sobbed. This was the last thing she wanted to happen and it happened already. She was going to have a child and there was nothing she could do about it now except for cry. Just last night she confessed to Ian that she didn't want children and now this was happening. It seemed like a sick joke life was playing on her and she didn't see it as funny.

Ian heard sobbing. His wife's sobbing. Even though he himself was still freaked, Kitty was probably feeling worse. He took in a deep breath of air and regained his cool. On the outside, anyway. "Kitty." he said gently. "I'm sorry you're upset, but I'm not sorry things turned out this way. I don't know why you don't think you can "handle" it, but whatever it is, we'll handle it together, OK? We're in this together and I promise you I won't let anything happen to you."
Ian paused, unsure of what to say next.

Ian was there for Kitty, but she couldn't help but feel so alone at the moment. There was no way she could be a mother and there was no way she was ready to be one. "How am I supposed to care for a child when I have no idea what it's like having a mother or being a child?" she asked looking at Ian. It was a sad thought, not being to relate to kids or the feelings of them. She got up from her chair and paced around uneasily thinking of what would happen in a few seasons and how the child would grow up. What if the child hated her? What if they thought she was a bad mother?

Ian sighed. "We can't-" He struggled to look for the right words. "We can't predict the future, or what will happen with our children. I know it sounds helpless, but we'll just have to sit and wait for tomorrow. I'm sure when the time comes, we'll know what to do."

It was hard for Kitty to completely understand what Ian was saying, but she got enough of it. He was struggling with what exactly to say to her and so was she to him. Fate is fate and fate says that they're having a child. All they could do about it now was wait and see what exactly happens. One thing was clear to her. She pitied the child inside of her now. It was unlucky to have her as a mother. "I don't know what to do," Kitty said giving up. "That's why I didn't want kids in the first place. It's another person and if you screw up you can hurt them forever and they'll hate you. I don't want that to happen..."

Ian wrapped his arms around his wife and sighed. "I know." he said in a comforting tone. "I know." Whatever the future held for them, the next few months we're going to suck. Both for Kitty, and Ian. "You're going to be fine." he said half-heartedly. "You'll be fine."
