The beach was absolutely lovely as the last traces of spring began to heat into summer. Blue sky as far as the eye could see, stretching out far enough into the distance to touch the ocean far out along the horizon. The sun was high overhead, but not as strong as it could be in mid-summer--a gentle breeze shook the trees and kept the valley nice and cool.
Mazie was absolutely captivated by the sound of the waves crashing against the shoreline. Nobody else had been around when she had arrived, but then she had arrived quite early in the day to enjoy a bit of time on the beach before having to go out job hunting. But for now, she spread her arms wide and allowed the wind of the ocean to envelope her. It whipped through her hair and clothes, a tad bit chilly, but surprisingly refreshing.
Just like that, all the worries in the world seemed to just roll off her shoulders.
Perhaps this was why Carter insisted on basking in the sunlight in the mornings. It was something about finding strength and energy, but it always made Mazie think of plants and she didn't really get it.
But while she was too caught up in her enjoyment of the cool air coming in off the ocean, she hadn't noticed that someone else had arrived to the beach until she heard the sound of a dog's barking. Instinctively, she whirled around to greet whoever it had been that came along, but she was instead greeted with an energetic little dog.
"Whoa, hey there," she said as the dog seemed to come running to her. He was a skippy little fellow who seemed happy to see a new face. Kneeling in the sand, she pet the dog's head with a kind smile. "You've come to enjoy the ocean too, eh? Where's your owner?"
Looking up, she noticed a girl coming down the beach. "Well, good morning! I don't think we've met before, have we? Is this your dog, by chance?"
